Operating System: Windows 10

Antivirus version: Avast Internet Security 2016

Before I go over the steps showing how to uninstall Avast 2016, I have to provide you with some advice:

Don't leave your computer unsecured, have an installation file for another antivirus software downloaded and ready.

Choose a new tool from our list of top rated virus protection software.

How to Uninstall Avast 2016

  1. Open your start menu and choose "Settings", then click "System" and afterwards click "Apps & Features" on the left hand side menu.

Locate Avast on the right, and click "Uninstall":

Installed Apps and Features in the System section of your Windows settings

Click Uninstall when you locate your Avast installation

  2. Windows will ask you to confirm running the Avast Installer which will be removing the Avast antivirus software from your computer:

    Windows confirmation pop up

Click Yes on the Windows confirmation prompt

  3. On the next screen, you will receive tempting offers to stay with Avast, but since you already made up your mind - simply locate the "Uninstall" button and click it.

  4. The next thing that will happen is this: a popup will appear saying that a malware attack might have initiated the Avast removal process, so you have to confirm that it was you within one minute.

You need to click "Yes" within that time frame, or the removal of Avast will be canceled.

Checking that the removal of Avast is intentional

Avast is making sure that uninstalling it is your actual intention

  5. At this point Avast will begin uninstalling, and you need to wait patiently for about a minute or two:

    Uninstalling the software

  6. Once the removal of Avast is complete, you need to restart your computer for the uninstall process to be finalized.

Click "Restart computer" when you're prompted to do so.

And you can pay no mind to the bottom section asking for feedback, unless you really want to.

Restart your computer to complete the removal of Avast antivirus

And voilà - you're all done in less than 3 minutes.

If the method above isn't working for you, try using Avast's removal tool.

You will have to download it, restart your computer in safe mode, and follow the instructions in the link above to the letter.

It's actually a pretty simple process, but in any case you will only need it if my step-by-step tutorial doesn't help you.

Now, if you still haven't done so, go get a new antivirus software and install it as soon as possible.
